Gorkha Update

June 2017 | Gorkha

The construction of 4 primary schools destroyed by the April 2015 earthquake in Gorkha is nearing completion. Despite numerous recent setbacks caused by the local elections and the unseasonal rainfall, the project is scheduled to be completed by August 2017. Access to some of the schools located in the remote hills of the district was further obstructed after incessant made it impossible for transport vehicles to reach the construction sites.

Once the school buildings are ready, children of Olang, Khinpu, Hansapur and Simjung will be able to move out of their temporary tin sheds, and into these safe classrooms constructed by OLE Nepal with support from the AirAsia Foundation. OLE Nepal will also introduce laptop programs in these schools, and train all teachers on using digital learning materials to enhance their lessons and engage students in classrooms.
