In order to fulfill its mission, OLE Nepal is working in partnership with the government of Nepal to:
- Develop high-quality free and open-source interactive digital learning materials that conform to Nepal’s national curriculum.
- Maintain a web-based repository of these resources.
- Build the government’s capacity to design, develop and maintain ICT-based materials.
- Implement a plan to provide universal access to primary and secondary school level ICT-based teaching-learning materials by 2015.
- Research and evaluate the effectiveness of different ICT based learning approaches.

Here are some of our goals for 2008:
- Develop core open-source digital learning materials for grades two and six in math and English.
- Design and develop a virtual library of learning materials.
- Train teachers on how to integrate technology and ICT-based learning materials in the classroom environment.
- Help the government launch the One Laptop Per Child project pilot at a public school on the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley in April 2008.
- Help the government expand the One Laptop Per Child project to three remote districts in the fall of 2008.
- Begin the monitoring and evaluation process of the pilot program.
Our prospective timeline
Fall 2007:
- Develop core open-source digital learning materials for grades two and six, subjects math and English.
- Begin design and development of virtual library of learning materials.
- Form partnerships with innovative non-profit organizations involved in Nepal's education sector.
Spring 2008:
- Begin training teachers how to use technology and learning materials in the classroom environment.
- Begin training academics and software developers how to create digital learning materials.
- Create an online repository of open-source learning materials.
- Help Nepal’s Department of Education pilot the One Laptop Per Child laptops and digital curriculum for grades two and six at a school in the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley.
Fall 2008:
- Help Nepal’s Department of Education pilot the One Laptop Per Child laptops and digital curriculum for grades two and six at six schools in three remote districts of Nepal.
- Being the monitor and evaluation process of the pilot program.
- Develop digital learning materials in science and Nepali for grades two and six.
- Develop digital learning materials for grades three and seven, subjects math, science, English and Nepali.
Spring 2009:
- Continue refinement and development of digital learning materials based on feedback from pilot projects.
- Establish connectivity to pilot schools in three districts to connect them to the Department of Education.
- Expand teacher training program to three pilot districts.
- Continue training academics and software developers how to create digital learning materials.
- Conduct full evaluation of the One Laptop Per Child program at thefirst pilot school.
