February 22, 2012 | Kavre
OLE Nepal’s digital library, the E-Pustakalaya, was deployed at Mahakali Higher Secondary School in Nayagaun of Kavre district from February 20 to 21, 2012. During the visit, the OLE Nepal team set up the school network consisting of 15 desktop computers and connected them to a school server that was pre-installed with offline version of E-Pustakalaya. Furthermore, a wireless router was also installed to enable wireless access to the digital library.
The team also routed the existing Internet link through the school server. Thus, the server now has dual purpose of acting as a network gateway filtering web content and as offline E-Pustakalaya server providing fast access to digital content to users. Finally, teachers from the school were given an orientation on the newly installed network, and on how to access, download and use the digital educational materials from the digital library.
Also coinciding with the second day of the visit was the inauguration of a new building of the school. The head teacher of the school announced the installation of digital library system in the school, and two other speakers, including Constitution Assembly member, Mr. Krishna Prasad Sapkota, highlighted the benefits of installing E-Pustakalaya in the schools in their speeches.
The Resource Person from the Kavre District Education Office, Mr. Madhav Acharya, expressed his willingness to install the digital library in at least couple other schools in the district. He further commented that the minimal cost of hardware and installation was nothing compared to what the schools would gain from access to such wide range of learning materials. He also praised the E-Pustakalaya during his speech at the school.
Earlier, OLE Nepal had delivered a presentation on E-Paath and E-Pustakalaya to head teachers of 11 schools of Kavre E-Village project on January 18, 2012 in Banepa. The deployment of E-Pustakalaya and the orientation program at the school was coordinated by a local organization named Shaishik Namuna Gramin Bikas Kendra.
