Refresher training and technical support to Phaplu Community School

E-Paati laptop-based learning program was launched at Phaplu Community School in October 2010 with 65 laptops targeting students in grades 2, 3, and 4, and a 7-day training for all teachers. In June 2011, additional 40 laptops were added to the school, followed by another 7-day training to teachers, followed by a 3-day in-school training was conducted in December 2011. Technical support and monitoring visit by OLE Nepal team was also done in May 2013.

OLE Nepal’s team of trainers and technical staff conducted refresher training and technical support at Phaplu Community School from  Dec 2 – 5, 2016. The refresher teacher training helped prepare the teachers on troubleshooting problems in technical, managerial and pedagogical aspects of laptop-integrated teaching methodologies.

A total of 13 teachers, including school coordinator and the principal, participated in the training held at the primary section of the school. 12 teachers participated in the training and orientation held at the secondary section of the school. The participating teachers were trained on laptop integrated teaching in their respective subjects, as well as, policies related to ICT in education. A few team building techniques was also discussed in the training.

The school, reportedly, had not been using the laptops after the April 2015 earthquake as the network equipments were removed after the school building’s structure was compromised. The technical team re-installed digital library server in new section of the school and set up the local network. All the E-Paati laptops were checked and updated with latest content and all minor problems were fixed. They also conducted a hands-on practice session for the teachers on network system setup.

The refresher training and technical support has helped the teachers revive the laptop-based integrated learning program for the students at Phaplu Community School.


Refresher training and technical support to 3 schools supported by Stichting Chimding

OLE Nepal conducted refresher training at Shree Sinha Kali Lower Secondary School, Chimding with the support from Foundation Chimding, a non profit organization working to improve living conditions and prospects of children in Nepalese villages, working closely with local people in 3 villages in the district of Solukhumbu and Dolakha, in cooperation with the local community schools to renovate and improve libraries, and  conduct training programmes for teachers.

The training conducted from December 1 to 4 included the teachers from grade 2 to 8 of three different schools namely Setigaya Primary School, Chyangsar; Shree Sinha Kali Lower Secondary School, Chimding; and Chyagesthan Higher Secondary School, Kerung. The laptop program was launched in these 3 schools in May 2012, with the support of Stichting Chimding.

After the April and May 2015 earthquakes destroyed much of the school infrastructure, E-Paati use was halted in the Shree Sinha Kali Lower Secondary School. After the reconstruction of classroom and the school library, refresher training was conducted in the new premises of Shree Sinha Kali Lower Secondary School. Teachers from all 3 schools, that are supported by the foundation, attended the training.

A total of 20 teachers from the 3 schools participated in the training. The refresher training revisited the key concepts and skills learned in the initial training, shared best practices. Trainees led the discussion on ways to tackle the technical, pedagogical and management challenges they had encountered. The trainers emphasized on the importance of proper planning an

d preparation to ensure effective integration of digital lessons in classrooms.

OLE Nepal’s technical team installed digital library server and set up local area network  in two of the schools: Shree Sinha Kali Lower Secondary School, Chimding and Chyagesthan Higher Secondary School, Kerung. These schools can now access over 7,000 books in English and Nepali, audio-visual materials, reference materials and many more educational components that are useful for both students and teachers.
